May
May is National Historic Preservation Month and also marks the of opening our two Nauvoo Historical Society Museums - the Weld House Museum and the Rheinberger House Museum. The Weld House Museum is located at 1380 Mulholland Street and features many rooms dedicated to Nauvoo families and industries. The Rheinberger House Museum is located at 1150 Kimball Street and features the only stone arched wine cellar in Nauvoo that can still be toured.

Held Monday - Saturday, Sunset on the Mississippi is a lively old-fashioned, toe-tapping one-hour variety show performed as the sun sets over the Mighty Mississippi River in Nauvoo. Located at the Historic Nauvoo Outdoor Theater. Pre-show Band Concert and Children's Parade begins at 6:30 pm, performance begins at 7 pm. Tickets are not necessary.

Memorial Day Community Picnic

Hosted by the Nauvoo Betterment Association, the Memorial Day Community Picnic will happen at the Nauvoo City Park from 11 am to 1:00 pm. Those attending will be enjoy a catered meal as well as entertainment and the opportunity to visit with family and friends.
The newly constructed Veterans Memorial will be dedicated at 10 a.m. along Highway 96 South of Nauvoo.

Martyrdom Commemoration

Celebrate the life and testimony of Joseph Smith and his brother, Hyrum Smith with a brief ceremony and presentation at the Smith Family Cemetery (just a block West of the Joseph Smith Historic Site Visitor Center), at 12:00 pm. Ugo A. Perego will provide a presentation entitled "A Genetic Portrait of the Prophet Joseph Smith."
A second ceremonial event will be held at the Carthage Jail at 5:00 pm.
Mississippi River Power 100th Anniversary Celebration

Nauvoo United Methodist Church Annual Hog Roast

The Nauvoo United Methodist Church will be serving plain and barbeque pork with choices of side dishes, drinks and desserts at its annual Hog Roast meal. Serving will be from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the air-conditioned Friendship Hall at 1610 Ripley Street, Nauvoo. Carry-outs will be available. The cost of the meal is a free-will donation.

The Nauvoo Pageant - A Tribute to Joseph Smith

Narrated by Parly P. Pratt, the Nauvoo Pageant emphasizes the prophetic mission of Joseph Smith and honors the sacrifice, faith and courage of the Saints who gave their all to build a city and a temple to their God.
Performances held Tuesday - Saturday beginning at 8:30 p.m.
Guests are invited to attend the Frontier Country Fair activities beginning at 7 p.m. The Nauvoo Country Fair is a favorite activity for young and the young at heart. Guests enjoy 20 different 1840's style games and activities hosted by family cast members dressed in period costumes.

Great River Road Half Marathon

The Great River Road Half Marathon begins in Hamilton and ends in Nauvoo. Runners, Walkers and Bicyclist welcome. The Great River Road Run ½ Marathon is located in what is sometimes referred to as the heart of America. This run offers breathtaking views and majestic landscapes that inspire and sooth the soul. Nature has been kind to the banks and bluffs along this route. The Great River Road Run will set you alongside the mighty Mississippi as you run from Hamilton, Illinois to Nauvoo, Illinois. The beautiful fall setting will be spectacular as you make your way through the course.There are shuttle busses to transport runners/walkers back to the beginning after the race.
