Baxter's Vineyards and Winery

Tour Illinois' oldest winery where the Baxter family has been making wine in historic old Nauvoo since 1857. The winery is open for free tours and tasting. Take a memory of Baxter's Vineyards and Winery home from the Tasting Room and Gift Shop. Their fine selection of wine includes Sweet White, Pink Catawba, Icarian Red and many others. One can browse through a unique gift shop featuring Country Blue Cheese Dressing, Wisconsin Cheese, Carol's Homemade Pies and Sweetbreads, jams, jellies and other specialty foods. During the appropriate season, grape and apple picking is also available. Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Historic Nauvoo Wagon Rides
Nauvoo is one of the most delightful villages in the country, and a wagon ride is a unique way of seeing the beauty you might otherwise miss. The tour is approximately one hour and is narrated by a tour guide. See the sites, hear the stories and learn the history! You can board the wagon at the corner of Partridge and Hibbard Streets at the Historic Nauvoo Visitors Center. FREE.

Oxen Rides
A yoke of real oxen pull you in a covered wagon across the "Mormon Trail" in the record time of ten minutes! Great family photo opportunity! FREE

Pioneer Past times

Bring the family along for a terrific time playing in the wide open spaces. Pioneer Pastimes revisits the days of long ago when imaginations and a few basic items energized children for hours! Here you will find great activities for everyone, including pioneer games, stilts, stories, and a child-sized log home! FREE

Monument to Women Gardens
Adjacent to the Historic Nauvoo Visitors Center is the Monument to Women Memorial Garden. Brick walkways, spacious lawns, flowers, shrubs, and trees blend into a simple pattern consistent with the mood of Nauvoo's historic restoration. This beautiful garden consists of an heroic central sculpture of a woman, enhanced by 12 life-sized figures expressing the widely varied nature of women's vital role in society. The display may well be the largest commissioned display of sculpture in the world dedicated to women. FREE

Family Living Center
Visitors can watch missionaries as they demonstrate timeless skills in producing everyday items made from wood, metal, clay and other materials. Watch demonstrations in a wide variety of 19th Century trades such as spinning, bread making, candle making, pottery, rope and barrell making. Tie everything together as you help the Rope Maker create another length. Finish it all off with the baker, and taste delicious bread from the brick-oven. A must stop for the children! FREE

Nauvoo State Park

Historic Nauvoo is the backdrop for the Nauvoo State Park, on the banks of the Mississippi River in western Illinois' Hancock County. The 148-acre park, on the south edge of Nauvoo along Illinois State Highway 96, features a 13-acre lake with a mile-long shoreline. In addition to fishing, boating, camping and hiking, people return to these serene surroundings for the park's recreational features, its annual grape festival and to soak up the area's history. Nauvoo State Park is also home to the Rheinberger Home Museum.
